How to deactivate your Facebook account.
Here are the steps:
Through a Web Browser:
- Click the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top right
- Go to “Settings & Privacy” → “Settings”
- Click “Your Facebook Information” on the left
- Select “Deactivation and Deletion”
- Choose “Deactivate Account” and follow the prompts
- Enter your password to confirm
Through the Mobile App:
- Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines)
- Scroll down to “Settings & Privacy” → “Settings”
- Tap “Personal Information” → “Account Ownership and Control”
- Select “Deactivation and Deletion”
- Choose “Deactivate Account” and follow the prompts
Important things to know:
- Deactivation is temporary – you can reactivate anytime by logging in
- Your profile won’t be visible, but Messenger can still work if you choose
- Some information (like messages you’ve sent) will still be visible to others
- Photos and posts are hidden but not deleted
- You’ll be removed from groups unless you’re the admin
- Friends won’t be notified about your deactivation
Note: If you want to permanently delete your account instead of deactivating it, choose “Delete Account” in step 4 rather than “Deactivate Account.”
To deactivate your Facebook account, follow these steps:
- Log in to Facebook:
- Open the Facebook app or go to www.facebook.com and log in with your credentials.
- Access Settings:
- On the desktop version, click the downward arrow (▼) in the top right corner and select Settings & Privacy > Settings.
- On the mobile app, tap the three horizontal lines (menu) in the top right corner (Android) or bottom right corner (iOS), then scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy > Settings.
- Navigate to Your Facebook Information:
- In the settings menu, click or tap on Your Facebook Information.
- Deactivate Your Account:
- Under the Your Facebook Information section, select Deactivation and Deletion.
- Choose Deactivate Account, then click Continue to Account Deactivation.
- Confirm Deactivation:
- Facebook will ask why you’re deactivating your account and might offer options to help with your decision.
- Follow the prompts and, once you’re ready, click Deactivate.
- Complete the Process:
- After confirming your deactivation, your account will be temporarily disabled. You can reactivate it at any time by logging back in.
Things to note:
- Deactivating your account temporarily removes it from public view, but Facebook will still retain your data.
- Deactivation is reversible — you can reactivate your account by logging in again.
If you wish to permanently delete your account, you can select the Permanently Delete Account option instead of deactivating.
