  4. Select “Deactivation and Deletion”
  5. Choose “Deactivate Account” and follow the prompts

Important things to know:

  • Deactivation is temporary – you can reactivate anytime by logging in
  • Your profile won’t be visible, but Messenger can still work if you choose
  • Some information (like messages you’ve sent) will still be visible to others
  • Photos and posts are hidden but not deleted
  • You’ll be removed from groups unless you’re the admin
  • Friends won’t be notified about your deactivation

Note: If you want to permanently delete your account instead of deactivating it, choose “Delete Account” in step 4 rather than “Deactivate Account.”

To deactivate your Facebook account, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Facebook:
    • Open the Facebook app or go to www.facebook.com and log in with your credentials.
  2. Access Settings:
    • On the desktop version, click the downward arrow (▼) in the top right corner and select Settings & Privacy > Settings.
    • On the mobile app, tap the three horizontal lines (menu) in the top right corner (Android) or bottom right corner (iOS), then scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy > Settings.
  3. Navigate to Your Facebook Information:
    • In the settings menu, click or tap on Your Facebook Information.
  4. Deactivate Your Account:
    • Under the Your Facebook Information section, select Deactivation and Deletion.
    • Choose Deactivate Account, then click Continue to Account Deactivation.
  5. Confirm Deactivation:
    • Facebook will ask why you’re deactivating your account and might offer options to help with your decision.
    • Follow the prompts and, once you’re ready, click Deactivate.
  6. Complete the Process:
    • After confirming your deactivation, your account will be temporarily disabled. You can reactivate it at any time by logging back in.

Things to note:

  • Deactivating your account temporarily removes it from public view, but Facebook will still retain your data.
  • Deactivation is reversible — you can reactivate your account by logging in again.

If you wish to permanently delete your account, you can select the Permanently Delete Account option instead of deactivating.
