What is Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting computers, networks, systems, and data from unauthorized access, attacks, or damage.

In simple terms:

Cybersecurity keeps your information safe online — like your passwords, bank details, photos, or messages — and protects systems (like websites, apps, and company servers) from hackers and viruses.

Key Goals of Cybersecurity:

Confidentiality – Keeping information private (only the right people can access it). Integrity – Making sure information isn’t changed by someone who shouldn’t change it. Availability – Making sure systems and data are available when needed (e.g., websites don’t go down during an attack).

Common Cyber Threats:

Malware: Malicious software like viruses, worms, and ransomware. Phishing: Fake emails or messages trying to trick you into giving away personal info. Hacking: Unauthorized access to systems or data. DDoS attacks: Overloading a system (like a website) to make it crash.

Examples of Cybersecurity in Action:

Antivirus software on your laptop Two-factor authentication (like getting a code by SMS) Firewalls that block unwanted traffic Encrypted messaging apps like Signal or WhatsApp
