Severe Tropical Storm Leon Intensifies, Threatens Northern Luzon

Typhoon Leon PH Update:

Severe Tropical Storm Leon continues to strengthen as it moves westward towards the Philippine archipelago. As of 4 AM today, the storm’s center was estimated at 645 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. It is packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 135 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, warns that Leon may rapidly intensify into a typhoon within the next 12 hours. This potential intensification has prompted concerns for the northern part of Luzon, particularly the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela.

Due to the impending threat, PAGASA has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over multiple areas in Luzon. This signal indicates that strong winds may affect the region, potentially causing damage to structures and power lines. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions, such as securing loose objects, monitoring weather updates, and preparing for possible evacuations.

As Leon approaches, coastal areas may also experience significant wave heights and strong currents, posing risks to seafarers and those living in coastal communities. PAGASA urges the public to stay informed and follow the latest advisories from local authorities.
