Soft Reset (Just restart the phone):

  • Press and hold the power button and either volume button until you see “slide to power off”
  • Slide to turn off, wait 30 seconds, then press the power button to turn it back on

Factory Reset (Erase all content and settings):

  • Open Settings
  • Tap General
  • Scroll down and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone
  • Tap Erase All Content and Settings
  • Follow the prompts to complete the reset

Before doing a factory reset, make sure to:

  • Back up your iPhone to iCloud or your computer
  • Sign out of your Apple ID (Settings > [your name] > Sign Out)
  • Remove any paired devices like Apple Watch

Option 2:

Back Up Your Data

  • Crucial Step: Before any reset, back up your iPhone to iCloud or your computer (using iTunes/Finder). This safeguards your photos, contacts, messages, and other important data.

Reset All Settings (Minor Reset)

  • Go to: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings.
  • What it does: Restores default settings like Wi-Fi passwords, keyboard dictionary, and location services.
  • When to use: When you’re experiencing minor software glitches or want a fresh start without erasing your data.

Erase All Content and Settings (Full Reset)

  • Go to: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
  • What it does: Completely wipes your iPhone, removing all data and settings.
  • When to use: Before selling or giving away your iPhone, troubleshooting major issues, or starting over fresh.

Important Notes:

  • Find My iPhone: If Find My iPhone is enabled, you might need to disable it before the reset.
  • Apple ID and Password: You’ll need your Apple ID and password during the setup process after the reset.
  • Restore from Backup: After a full reset, you can restore your data from the backup you created earlier.
